Welcome to the 'Baazar'!!!

ba•zaar, also ba•zar noun 1. A market consisting of a street lined with shops and stalls. 2. A shop or a part of a store in which miscellaneous articles are sold. 3. A fair or sale at which a wide variety of articles are sold.

About Baazar:
The bizarre spelling of 'bazaar' is clearly a play on Matt's last name, but more than that is, hopefully, implied. The intention of Baazar is to create innovative, yet accessible, music featuring diverse influences, with hopefully a touch of fun included…

This site is intended to provide infomation on the music of Matt Baamonde, a 19 year old musician/songwriter and his musical project, Baazar. For those not up on the latest happenings, Matt posted a song called Amplifire on www.idolunderground.com in March 2006. It won the Top Rated Song contest in the Rock category (with 3,163 songs entered). In April, Matt added a second song, called White Noise to the Idol Underground mix.

The contest that ended in April 2006 was simply called the Rock Competition. It was a five (5) month long contest that began on Dec. 1, 2005 and ended on April 30, 2006. Unbelievably, Amplifire placed FIRST, and White Noise placed SECOND!

In May, there was another Top Rated Song - Rock contest, and the songs traded places, with White Noise finishing in First Place and Amplifire taking Second, with a total of 3866 songs competing...

May also saw the end of the First Round of The Big Push - Rock Competition. This is the biggest competiton on Idol Underground by far, with a top prize of $20,000 and over $5000 worth of prizes for the top song's artist. One winner only. The contest started on February 1st, 2006. When Round 1 ended and all the entrants were cut down to 10 finalists, White Noise was First and Amplifire was Second, based on how listeners rated the songs from 0 through 5 on the Idol radio player! Round 2 ended on Saturday, July 15th. Scoring was based on total number of votes, not on how people rated the songs. Scores were updated daily at midnight PST. When the contest ended White Noise was still FIRST and Amplifire was still SECOND! Official results will be posted either 5 days after the competiton ends or on August 1st, according to the slightly confusing notes on the site...see for yourself by clicking here! We are holding on, waiting for a final confirmation of who won...while preparing for Matt to go off to Berkely at the end of August.

Side notes: Since all the winning started Matt has had a congratulatory message and picture placed in the July 2006 Guitar World Magazine. His song Amplifire was placed on the CD insert in the August Guitar World Magazine. Two local newspaper articles were written, in the Herndon Observer and the Herndon Times. His picture and the blurb for Guitar World Magazine are also front and center in one of the Flash screens on the Idol homepage. Watch it go through the screens until you see the Guitar World banner "We Got Their Music Heard" and you will see Matt's picture! Pretty cool stuff.

The most recent of all the news is that Matt was interviewed by the Washington Post and the local Fox TV affiliate. Fox interviewed Matt, filmed some footage of Matt at Guitar Center playing White Noise, that is airing on Friday, July 21st at 5 and 10 PM. The Post visited twice during the week and the article is pending.
